Moldovan PM meets European official

Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/- On the eve of the meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Committee, Prime Minister Pavel Filip had a meeting with Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE of the European External Action Service Luc Devigne on 18 October. The officials discussed the developments in the implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement and spoke out for boosting the activity on certain segments, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Filip appreciated the EU support in overcoming periods of political instability and economic difficulty faced by Moldova. At the same time, he noted that the work of the government is focused on the implementation of the Association Agreement and appreciated the commitment of European institutions to develop the Eastern Partnership.

In the context, the premier approached the pension reform, central public administration and measures to improve the business environment. ”Our conviction is that we are not taking action to show something to foreign partners, but because they are for the benefit of Moldovan citizens”, he said.

For his part, Luc Devigne pointed out that the meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Committee due on 19 October in Chisinau represents a good opportunity to assess in details the stage of the country in terms of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement. Also, the European official appreciated openness of Moldovan authorities for cooperation with the European institutions in implementing the agreed commitments.

The talks also focused on justice reform, fighting corruption and reducing bureaucracy, improving investment climate in energy sector, measures to create a favorable environment for media activity.

At the end of the meeting, Filip said that the confidence of citizens in the EU increases and reiterated the determination of the government to make the European path of our country irreversible.
