Moldovan policemen detain 12 traffickers of drugs worth 2.5 million lei

Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - Twelve people aged between 20 and 46 years have been detained within an anti-drug operation held during two days. At the same time, another over 60 persons, at whose homes drugs were found, are prosecuted at large.
According to the National Investigations Inspectorate, the detained suspects acted as organizers and intermediaries in selling drugs. Within the operation, the law-enforcers made 95 searches in 26 Moldovan districts.
More than 14 kg of marihuana and hemp plants, poppy, hashish, heroine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, psychotropic pills, ethno-botanical products, drug precursors worth about 2.5 million lei were sequestrated following raids. Also, two laboratories for producing drugs were discovered and liquidated in the settlements of Ialoveni and Ungheni.
At the same time, policemen found and raised weapons and cartridges held illegally. Also, five persons were documented driving drunk of drugs’ consumption, of whom three worked as taxi drivers.
If found guilty, the suspects run the risk of being sentenced to 7-15 years of imprisonment.
