More events to be held in Chisinau to celebrate 100th anniversary of proclamation of Moldovan Democratic Republic

Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/- President Igor Dodon has ordered the organization of several events celebrating the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Moldovan Democratic Republic and appointment of the first government of the Moldovan Republic, according to a presidential decree published today in the Official Journal of Moldova.
The decree provides for the establishment of the committee that will deal with events. Previously, Dodon wrote on a social network that “taking into account the exceptional importance of this significant event for the continuity of statehood of the Moldovan people, in the historical and ethnic context of it as a nation, I will soon issue a presidential decree setting up the jubilee commission for organizing and conducting events marking the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Moldovan Democratic Republic”.
Dodon noted he would ask the government to delegate representatives and provide support for the implementation of the programme due to be drafted by the commission.
Under the decree, the commission will work out and approve an action programme on events and will work with public administrative authorities to perform the programme.
The Moldovan Democratic Republic was a state which independence from the Russian Empire was proclaimed on 2 December 1917 by the Council of State in Bessarabia. Initially, the Moldovan Democratic Republic was declared part of a future Federal Russia, and on 24 January 1918 the Council of State unanimously voted for proclaiming the independence of the Moldovan Democratic Republic, and on 27 March 1918 voted to unite with Romania.
