Moldovan parliament makes amendments to law on beekeeping

Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today voted a draft on the amendment and completion of the Law on beekeeping in the final reading.

The initiative belongs to a lawmaker from the European People’s Party’s group, Simion Grisciuc. “The draft was worked out in order to improve the relations between beekeepers and local public authorities and upgrade the conditions for the beekeeping activity,” Grisciuc noted.

The document stipulates the change of the procedure of carrying out the state control in beekeeping, which, once the amendments to the legislation enter into force, will be made based on an integrated multiannual plan.

At the same time, the legislation on the association of beekeepers will be amended too. The associations of beekeepers will have the following powers: beekeepers’ representation and defending their interests at all levels; undertaking pleasures to protect bees, the environment, honey sources, residents and animals from the area of work of bees’ families; making proposals on cooperation in the environmental protection to the central and local public administration authorities; organization of exhibitions, fairs, meetings, conferences, seminars and other measures of popularizing the beekeeping, in order to develop this branch; cooperation with the public administration authorities in elaborating policies on developing the beekeeping; working out draft normative acts in the field; participation, jointly with the competent institutions, in the state attestation of reproduction bee gardens; professional attestation of beekeepers and organization of courses for studying advanced practices in beekeeping.  

The draft’s author said that the implementation of the provisions of the present draft law was aimed at setting new principles of work in beekeeping, through the observance of sanitary and veterinary requirements in the treatment and prophylaxis of bees’ diseases, carrying out maintenance works, as well as collection, processing and stocking bees’ products.  

According to statistic data, in 2016, the export of Moldovan natural honey grew by ten per cent and amounted to 3,100 tons.
