Exhibition of documentary photos dedicated to Polish, American hero inaugurated in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/ - The National History Museum and the Bucharest-based Polish Institute today inaugurated an exhibition of documentary photos titled „Tadeusz Kościuszko – prețul libertății” (Tadeusz Kościuszko – Price of Freedom), dedicated to the Polish and American general, hero of Poland and the United States.

The event was organized in the context of marking the Tadeusz Kościuszko Year, declared by the parliament of Poland. The exhibition comprises 24 banners and evokes the personality of Tadeusz Kościuszko, famous commander and fighter for the freedom not only of his country, but also of the United States, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his death in 2017.   

In his speech, Ambassador of Poland to Moldova Bartlomiej Zdaniuk said that the Polish and American general Tadeusz Kościuszko (1746-1817), had fought for the freedom of both nations, and also had demanded the liberation of the peasants and slaves. The diplomat noted that Kościuszko, as a quite capable military engineer,  had constructed outstanding fortifications, designing, among others, the stronghold West Point, where the headquarters of the well-known American Military Academy is placed now.      

For her part, the director of the Polish Institute from Bucharest, Angieszka Skieterska, said, in the context, that, on the occasion of the declaring by the Polish parliament of the Tadeusz Kościuszko Year in 2017, numerous events were held worldwide, meant to evoke the personality of the famous commander. In continuation, the director of the Mihai Eminescu Romanian Culture Institute from Chisinau, Valeriu Matei, stressed that Tadeusz Kościuszko was a personality symbol for Poland and the USA; he was sung by poets and painted by famous fine artists of the world.   

The exhibition will be opened till 15 November.
