Moldovan health ministry starts investigation after death of young woman in dialysis

Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/ – The Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection today started an internal investigation in the case of the young orphan woman in dialysis, who was sent home on foot after addressing several hospitals with a belly burst because of ascites, and died on 02 November night in a hospital in Chisinau.

Interviwed by the agency, Cristina Stratulat, the head of the press service of the quoted minister, said that the internal investigation should clarify the way the medical assistance and attitude of the medical staff at the Municipal Clinical Hospital in Balti, the Drochia District Hospital and the Mother and Child Institute, possible deviations from the rules of ethics and medical deontology.

"The investigation was initiated on the basis of an order of the Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection, Stela Grigoras. The circumstances are already established. We hope these will be elucidated as quickly as possible," said Stratulat.

Similarly, the ministry condemned the serious violations of the medical staff service obligations. Thus, no matter what the circumstances, from error, from recklessness or from insufficient medical knowledge or attitude in the exercise of profession, those who are guilty will be sanctioned by law, including criminal, civil or disciplinary.

Niculina Bulat was taken on 02 November 2017 by the Aviasan service and transported to Chisinau. The case was made public by a newspaper in Chisinau. The 20-year-old was from Drochia village, Drochia district, and was in dialysis for over 10 years. She remained orphaned after her mother died, being also in dialysis.
