Employees of three Moldovan enterprises, State Chancellery take part in national greening day

Chisinau, 4 November /MOLDPRES/ - Employees of the MOLDPRES State News Agency, Casa Presei (Press House) Complex, Universul (The Universe) Publishing House and State Chancellery today planted oak-tree seeds on an area of two hectares on the territory of the Straseni forest and hunting enterprise, on the occasion of the national greening day.  

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the chief forestry engineer of the Straseni forest and hunting enterprise, Sergiu Chihai, has said that the enterprise had an area of 13,000 hectares.

“Presently, we have natural regenerations on 330 hectares, forest crops – 90 hectares and assisting the natural regeneration – on 120 hectares. In 2017, we still have works within which we will carry out the first stage also with natural regenerations,” Sergiu Chihai said.  

According to data put out by the Moldsilva Forestry Agency, this autumn, about three million seedlings will be planted on an area of 555 hectares. At the same time, works of assisting the natural regeneration in the forest fund will be carried out on an area of 250 hectares.  

A Tree for Our Future is the main national campaign of planting trees in Moldova. In 1995, a presidential decree was signed on the establishment of the National Day of Country Greening, A Tree for Our Future, on the first Saturday of April and since 2011, this day has been marked on the last Saturday of October.  

Statistic data shows that Moldova is on the last position in Europe according to the area of woods, as little as 11 per cent of all the territory, with the European average standing at 45 per cent. For comparison, in Sweden, the degree of afforestation is 65 per cent, in Finland – 64 per cent and in Germany – 55 per cent.
