EU Commissioner for Trade to visit Moldova

Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/ - European Union Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström will pay a visit to Chisinau on 6-7 November. During the visit, the sides will review the progress made in the EU-Moldova commercial relation.  

Commissioner Malmström will have meetings with President Igor Dodon, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Deputy Prime Minister, Economics and Infrastructure Minister Octavian Calmic and Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu.   

According to the official webpage of the European Commission, on the agenda, there are such subjects as: implementation of the free trade zone, progress and challenges recorded so far and the future way. At the same time, this will be an opportunity for Commissioner Malmström to meet members of the European Business Association, as well as civil society representatives.  

Also, the EU Commissioner for Trade will visit a Chisinau-based company, Monicol, which exports fruits and nuts grown in the zone.   

The third anniversary of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between the European Union and Moldova is marked this autumn. DCFTA represented a positive impetus for Moldova’s commerce with EU. In 2016, the country’s exports to the European Union grew by 7.7 per cent against the year before. Some sectors – producers of juices and canned fruits and vegetables - had better results; here, DCFTA boosted the exported by up to 25 per cent. The export of Moldovan wines to EU has almost doubled (+96 per cent) since the entrance into force of the free trade area in September 2014.
