Moldovan, Israeli officials broach social protection of Moldovan migrants

Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip met Minister of Immigrant Absorption of Israel Sofa Landver in Jerusalem on 8 November, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The premier expressed interest in promoting the political dialogue between states and cooperation in various fields. He noted that an important role in strengthening the bilateral relations plays Moldovan diaspora in Israel and the Jewish in our country.
“We are proud of the Jews who emigrated from Moldova to Israel and have a valuable contribution to the development of their historical homeland. Even if we are sorry we have lost good specialists we need especially now, when we go through a period of profound reforms to modernize society”, he said.
Filip also approached the measures taken by the Moldovan authorities to back the Jewish community in maintaining ethno-cultural identity. At the same time, he referred to the dispute over former synagogue Rabbi Tirilson, noting that a reconciliation settlement was concluded in this respect, which makes it possible to carry out the restoration of buildings while preserving the historical and architectural value.
Sofa Landver thanked the Moldovan authorities for the support shown to the Jewish community and reiterated the country’s openness to advance in implementing joint projects for the benefit of citizens of both states.
Another important topic of the discussions was aimed at developing cooperation in the social protection of migrant workers. In this context, Filip underlined the importance of signing a social protection agreement for Moldovan citizens working in Israel. Most of them work in the construction and home care for the elderly.
