Chisinau, 10 November /MOLDPRES/- Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca was transferred today from home arrest under judicial control for 30 days.
The decision was delivered by magistrates who rejected the prosecutors’ request to extend the home arrest measure.
The mayor temporarily suspended from office said that lawyers will attack the decision and will ask for his release.
“Something is wrong, we will realize next few days. I think it is a decision ostensibly before referendum. This process should normally be closed”, Chirtoaca said.
The Chisinau mayor was arrested in late May by anticorruption prosecutors and officers, suspected of influence peddling in the paid parking case. At the same time, anticorruption prosecutors announced in late August that the mayor is investigated in a new criminal case, in which he is suspected of overcoming his duties in a case on changing the execution of securities granting housing in the capital. Chirtoaca rejects the accusations and pleads not guilty.
