Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today appointed Bogdan Zumbreanu to the office of director of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA). Zumbreanu has earlier held the position of head of the CNA criminal prosecution department and will take over the Centre’s leadership for a five-year mandate.

Zumbreanu today took the oath in front the lawmakers, noting that he had been working at CNA since 2002 and knew the situation from inside. The new CNA head said that he would have discussions with all employees of the Centre, who are present in journalistic investigations alleging that they have fabulous wealth. Zumbreanu stressed that he would suggest these employees to be more modest, even if they own luxury cars and fortune.

The candidacy of Zumbreanu was selected following a contest by the juridical parliamentary commission for rules and immunities. Seven out of the eight members of the competent parliament’s commission voted for him.

Six persons initially ran for the office of CNA director; yet, at the phase of CVs, two of them were not admitted. The counter-candidates of Zumbreanu in the contest were a university lecturer at the Stefan cel Mare Police Academy Veaceslav Gutan, a head of the CNA general operative ensuring department, Igor Carlasuc, and a university lecturer at the State University Sava Maimescu.

The position of director of the National Anticorruption Centre remained vacant, after the mandate of Viorel Chetraru had expired on 25 October 2017.

Under the national legislation, the CNA director is appointed to office by the parliament with the votes of the majority of the elected MPs, for a five-year mandate, without possibility to be appointed for another mandate. The office of director is incompatible with any other remunerated work, except for the scientific and teaching activities.
