Thousands of people pay last respects to King Mihai I of Romania

Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ – Thousands of people brought a last tribute to King Mihai of Romania recently. The crowd came to catafalque of monarch with white flowers, while Royal Family extended access to Royal Palace where the coffin was deposited, news agency Mediafax has reported.
During the night of Thursday to Friday, thousands of people from different parts of Romania and the Republic of Moldova came to pay a last tribute to His Majesty. The line was so impressive that the Royal Family decided that those ones who wanted to say farewell to King Mihai to have access all night in the Royal Palace, although initially the programme was until 22:00.
People adorned roses, tulips, lilies or white chrysanthemums all over the Royal Palace fence and thousands of candles were lit. It was only on Thursday that the pages of three books of condolence were filled.
The people went to the Embassy of Romania to light a candle and leave goodbye messages in the Book of Condolences in Chisinau too.
Romania decreed 14, 15 and 16 December as National Mourning Days. At the same time, the President of the Republic of Moldova ignored the request of the speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, regarding the declaration of 16 December 2017 as a national mourning day in the Republic of Moldova.
The presence of representatives of the Royal Families in Great Britain, Sweden, Spain, Belgium, Jordan, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Albania, France, Prussia, Italy and Portugal was announced at the monarch's funeral. The Imperial Families in Russia, Austria and Germany, the Grand Duchy of Baden, the Wurttemberg Royal Family and the Ligne Princely Family will also be represented.
King Mihai I died on 05 December 2017, at private residence in Switzerland, being leukemic. The monarch's coffin arrived in Romania on 13 December 2017 by a military plane and was transported by car to Peles Castle, where officials from all over the world, including from Chisinau, could say good – bye. Subsequently, the king's inanimate body was taken to the Royal Hall of the Throne Hall in Bucharest, where he will remain until Saturday, 16 December 2017, when he will be buried at the New Archbishop and Royal Cathedral in Curtea de Arges, along with his wife.
