Weather to cool in Moldova on next days

Chisinau, 16 December /MOLDPRES/ - The weather will cool on the days to come, with snowfall expected in some regions. Yet, variable cloud is forecast in most regions of Moldova, with no precipitation.
According to the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS), on 16 December, Moldovans still enjoy generous air temperatures and sun; yet, the weather will cool starting from 17 December. The air temperature will drop from +9 - +14 Celsius degrees on 16 December to 0 - +3 degrees in the northern region and +1 - +5 degrees in the central and southern zones on 17 December. Snowfall and sleet is possible all over Moldova.
The tendency of cooling will maintain also in the first part of the next week. For 18-21 December, meteorologists inform about air temperatures of -2 - -9 degrees at night and+1 - -3 degrees during the day in north Moldova. At the same time, the air temperatures will vary from -1 - -8 degrees at night and -1 - +3 degrees during the day in the central and southern regions.
SHS specialists said the daily average air temperatures in December may oscillate between -19 - -26 degrees in 1996 and +10 - +13 degrees in 2008 and 2015. The gradual decrease of the average daily air temperature below the 0 Celsius degrees (beginning of the meteorological winter) is recorded, in general, in the first ten-day period of December, and only in the southern Moldova – in the beginning of the second ten-day period. The lowest air temperature in December for all the period of observation was -30.2 Celsius degrees (Balti, 28 December 1996) and the highest air temperature reached +18.9 degrees (Ceadar-Lunga, 5 December 2008).
The people’s calendar for this period is characterized mostly by Saint Hierarch Nicholas, celebrated by old-style Orthodox Christians on 19 December.
