Moldovan PM attends event on National Police Day

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip participated in a festive ceremony on 18 December, on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the creation of the National Police, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

In his speech, the premier appreciated the dedication and courage expressed by police, noting their ability to act proactively to the needs of citizens and to maintain public order, essential elements in the modernization of the country. “We often talk about importance of economic development, quality public services and investments. But all this cost nothing if people in our society do not feel safe”, he said.

Filip noted that thanks to the efforts of police employees, important success had been recorded, such as increasing society’s confidence in this institution and quality of services provided by police subdivisions. Thus, the crime in our country has decreased by 20 per cent compared to last year, and confidence in police has doubled over the last two years.

In the context, the premier reiterated the government’s willingness to help improve the working conditions of the police and continue to support the ongoing reforms in the internal affairs system. “We understand very well that a strong police is a trained and well equipped. Once the implementation of policies that have been worked out by us, once the completion of reforms, I have every confidence that you will feel even more proud of the profession you have”, he concluded.

The National Police Day of Moldova is marked annually on 18 December.
