New measures to support older people approved today

Chisinau, 20 December /MOLDPRES/- The cabinet today approved an action plan on implementation of the active aging principle for 2018-2021. The implementation of the proposed measures will contribute to the integration of older people into social, economic and cultural life, including by involving more actively local administration in providing the necessary support to this category of people, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Activities set in the plan are meant to improve the living standards and health of older people. To this end, it is scheduled to strengthen the budgetary sustainability of social protection and social assistance programs, as well as of healthcare for older people. At the same time, it is planned active employment of older people and ensuring access and quality of professional qualification services for those over 55 years of age. Other goals include improving the index of active aging and increasing the participation of older people in decision-making.

When elaborating new actions, it has been taken into account both the evolution of demographic aging process of the people and the results of evaluation of the previous action plan for implementation of the programme for integration of aging problems into policies.

The expenditures required for the implementation of the plan will be covered from the state budget and from the resources provided by the development partners.
