Chisinau, 2 January /MOLDPRES/ - “The Constitutional Court (CCM), in its capacity of guarantor of the Constitution, today gave a solution to the institutional blockage triggered by President Igor Dodon, who repeatedly ruled to ignore the norms of the Fundamental Law. In my capacity of acting president, on the next period, I will sign the decree on the appointment of ministers and will receive their oath of allegiance,” Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu said in a comment on CCM’s ruling, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The Constitutional Court today found out, at a request by a group of lawmakers of the juridical commission for rules and immunities, circumstances justifying the establishment of the interim duties of Moldova’s president for the appointment of the new cabinet members.
According to Andrian Candu, the Constitutional Court’s ruling brings a solution as to the temporary impossibility to exercise the duties of the office of president, only on the element dealing with the appointment of the new cabinet members.
The magistrates of the Constitutional Court suspended Igor Dodon from office in the case of the new government members’ appointment, after the head of state had deliberately refused to fulfill the obligations stipulated in the Constitution, by twice turning down the candidacies put forward by the prime minister. If similar situations emerge in the long run, the Constitutional Court will have to be notified each time.
