Acting mayor of Balti appointed today

Chisinau, 3 January /MOLDPRES/- Balti municipal council, convened today in extraordinary session, appointed Leonid Babii as acting mayor of the municipality, after yesterday Igor Seremet resigned from this position. The decision was voted by 27 out of the 35 local representatives.

Since 1972, Leonid Babii held several leading positions in public administration. He has also developed a scientific activity. In 2001-2015 he was head of the Barza Alba stock company. He was awarded the Order of the Republic, Labor Glory Order and Order of Honor. Since 2015 he served as deputy mayor of Balti.

Babii has not made statements after being voted the Balti municipal council’s decision to be appointed acting mayor, and at the exit of the meeting room he was applauded by a group of citizens.

Today’s meeting was convened by an order signed on 29 December 2017 by former interim mayor Igor Seremet. This was after Renato Usatii asked the council to initiate the procedure for convening a local referendum for his dismissal. The PN faction met Usatii’s demand and voted on the referendum.
