Moldova capital’s mayor gets another 30 days of arrest under judicial control

Chisinau, 05 January /MOLDPRES/ – Mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, has got another 30 days of arrest under judicial control. The decision was taken on 05 January 2017 by Chisinau Court’s magistrates of Buiucani sector.
According to the court’s decision, the mayor will not be have to leave Chisinau municipality within upcoming month.
Prosecutor, Dumitru Robu, said “the grounds underlying pre – trial detention have kept their topicality, as the risk of witness intimidation and impeding the proper conduct of the investigation persists.”
Dorin Chirtoaca was present at the hearing. Following the ruling, he stated that “court’s decision was meaningless.” “I’m sorry to act that way. We tried to prove that the request for an extension of arrest measure has no basis, especially as this fact is delaying the process,” said Chirtoaca.
Mayor of Chisinau was detained at the end of May in 2017, suspected of having influence on file of paid parking lots. Also, anticorruption prosecutors announced in the late August 2017 that the mayor was investigated in a new criminal case in which he was suspected of exceeding service duties in a file on change the way of execution of housing titles in Moldovan capital. Dorin Chirtoaca rejects the accusations and pleads innocent.
