Meteorologists forecast nice weather in Moldova for old-style Christmas period

Chisinau, 6 January /MOLDPRES/ - High air temperatures, variable cloud with rains in northern Moldova are meteorologists’ forecasts for the next days, when old-style Christians mark Christmas.

According to the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS), the air temperatures are to oscillate between +5 and +12 degrees during the day and between 0 and +5 degrees at night.

The weather is expected to cool starting from 9 January. Thus, in northern Moldova, the air temperatures will decrease to +3 degrees during the day and down to -5 degrees at night. During the day, the air temperature is to be higher in some regions of central and southern Moldova, with snow and sleet possible in these zones. It is worth mentioning that the coldest weather is expected in southern Moldova in the second part of the next week, where the air temperature might drop to -7 degrees.   

For the time being, Moldova enjoys a mild winter, yet not so beneficial for agriculture. Specialists say that the winter crops are, in fact, in vegetative state in January; at the same time, in some years with mild winters, thaws are dangerous for winter crops. These are frequent phenomena in Moldova. Thaws with average daily air temperatures of +5 degrees and higher are the most dangerous ones. During these days, the vegetation of the winter crops and fruit trees is resumed and they might be harmed if the weather cools sharply. There are 12-18 days with thaw on average in January.
