Moldovan foreign affairs ministry welcomes priorities of Italian OSCE chairmanship for 2018

Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/ – It was held the special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council on 11 January 2018, where the head of Italian diplomacy, Angelino Alfano, as acting Chairman, presented the agenda and priorities of the Italian OSCE Chairmanship, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
The Italian Chairmanship aims to provide a conducive framework for the effective functioning of the OSCE and adopted motto: “Dialogue, Ownership, Responsibility”, which will fundament the prospect of the Italian mandate throughout year 2018.
A particular attention will be paid to migration crisis in the Mediterranean area and to settlement of prolonged conflicts in Moldova, Georgia and the Nagorno Karabakh region within the existing negotiation formats.
In cooperation with members of the OSCE Troika (Austria and Slovakia), with the Secretary General of the organization and the participating countries, there will be continued the efforts to promote security and stability in the OSCE area, main position on the security agenda to be assigned to the crisis in Ukraine.
The Moldovan delegation to the OSCE delivered a national speech reiterating the necessity to promote the “5+2” negotiation process on Transnistrian conflict settlement and support for the peaceful conflict resolution in Ukraine. The Permanent Representative, Victor Osipov, also emphasized the importance of strengthening the dialogue in the OSCE area on the basis of a comprehensive approach in the context of conflict resolution, proper functioning of mechanisms and autonomous institutions as well as of field missions.
Similarly, MAEIE welcomes the appointment of the Special Representative for the Transnistrian conflict settlement process of former Italian Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini, known in Moldova due to the support given to the Republic of Moldova during his mandate as Vice President of the European Commission in 2004 – 2008.
