Moldovan official journal roundup for 12 January

11:23 | 12.01.2018 Category: Political

Chisinau, 12 January /MOLDPRES/- Decrees appointing the new ministers have been published in the Official Journal of Moldova. The documents were signed on 10 January by Speaker Andrian Candu, who served as the interim president of the country, after Igor Dodon repeatedly rejected the candidates proposed by Pavel Filip.

The ministers appointed by the premier sworn in on 10 January, and yesterday attended the first meeting of the government in the new formula.

The candidacies for the post of ministers and deputy premiers were proposed in December by the ruling Democratic Party and repeatedly rejected by head of state Igor Dodon on the grounds that most of the candidates “showed inconsistency, lack of professionalism and opportunism in their previously held positions”.

Following the reshuffle in the government, the position of deputy premier for European integration was held by Iurie Leanca, former prime minister and foreign minister. The post of deputy premier for reintegration was taken over by Cristina Lesnic, who previously worked in the Interior Ministry.

The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure will be held by former premier Chiril Gaburici, and Svetlana Cebotari will work at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection. The field of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment will be managed by Liviu Volconovici, and Tudor Ulianovschi will be the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The field of Justice will be led by Alexandru Tanase.

Only four ministers have preserved their positions. It is about Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc, Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan, Finance Minister Octavian Armasu and Defence Minister Eugen Sturza.

On 2 January 2018, the Constitutional Court issued a notification stating that the speaker or premier may sign the decrees appointing new members of government and may take their oath. Magistrates have found that Igor Dodon’s deliberate refusal to fulfill his constitutional obligation to appoint new members of the government, on a repeated proposal by the premier, is a violation of constitutional obligations and justifies setting up the interim office.
