Over 12 thousand persons hit by viroses in recent fortnight in Moldova

Chisinau, 17 January /MOLDPRES/ – A total of 12,571 persons from all over Moldova went to see a doctor with acute respiratory infections within recent fortnight, the National Centre for Public Health’s (CNSP) information and media communication service has reported.  

Interviewed by the agency, deputy director on transmissible disease prevention and control of CNSP, Nicolae Fortuna, said that four cases of flu confirmed in laboratory have been recorded in Moldova since the beginning of 2018. Of these, the presence of influenza A (H1N1) was detected in three persons, and in one person the B virus influenza.

"The number of cases of influenza is below the epidemic threshold being much lower than in the same period of 2017 when there were 790 cases of seasonal influenza," said Fortuna. 

According to CNSP’s data, in the first two weeks of 2018, doctors treated 5,615 patients who had severe acute respiratory infections.

Interviewed by the agency, head of health department of Chisinau mayor’s office, Mihai Moldovanu, said that the number of viruses in Moldovan capital increased by over 12 per cent in the recent week. "The most affected are children under the age of six. At present, the situation is stable, we will already monitor the data in the upcoming weeks," said Moldovanu. He said that three cases of seasonal influenza have been confirmed in Chisinau, one of them with a 12 – year – old child.

The doctors warn people to consume as many fruits and vegetables as possible, avoid crowded places, alcohol and smoking, and by first symptoms of illness to address the doctor.
