Moldovan cabinet approves action plan on foreigners' integration for 2018

Chisinau, 17 January /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, approved an action plan on foreigners’ integration for 2018. The document contains six chapters on strengthening the normative framework in the sector of foreigners’ integration, of informing and fortifying the institutional capacities of the central and local public administration authorities in the communication with foreigners, ensuring the functionality of the integration centres, etc.
The plan is meant to facilitate, on the one hand, the authorities’ work in planning the implementation of the activities of integration, enhancing the involvement of territorial structures, ensuring the uniform implementation of the legal framework in the field of foreigners’ integration all over Moldova, including through getting involved local public authorities and the civil society. On the other hand, the plan is meant to clear up for foreigners the degree of the state’s involvement in the promotion of integration activities.
According to the Interior Ministry, 18,936 foreigners had right to stay in Moldova on 30 June 2017, of whom 8,715 were with right of permanent stay and 10,221 with right of temporary stay. As many as 1,067 foreigners were working in Moldova, 2,688 were studying, 4,714 had right to stay in family. There were 588 foreign investors with right to stay in Moldova.
A number of 3,164 foreigners with valid identity papers were documented in Transnistria, of whom 2,427 foreigners with right of permanent stay and 737 foreign citizens with right of temporary stay.
Official data shows that, on 30 September 2017, 477 people were registered in the asylum system, of whom 153 refugees. Most asylum seekers were from Ukraine, Afghanistan and Syria.
