Eleven people hospitalized in the wake of traffic accidents triggered by bad weather in Moldova

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - Eleven people have been injured in the wake of 65 traffic accidents which occurred on roads of Moldova because of the bad weather. The last hours’ snowfall has blocked five highways in the southern region. The National Patrol Inspectorate (INP) made statements to this effect.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the INP press service, Alina Bunghez, said that vehicles were moving in winter conditions all over the country till 15:00. “The snowfall and wind blocked the access to roads in the Stefan Voda district. The highways R-35 Basarabeasca-Comrat, R-30 Anenii Noi and R-32 Cahul-Taraclia are blocked. At present, vehicles for cleaning snow work in the districts hit,” Bunghez noted.
As many as 275 settlements from 18 Moldovan districts were disconnected from power supply also because of the snowfall and strong wind.
The work of six border checkpoints in southern Moldova was ceased. The traffic was stopped at the customs checkpoints Basarabeasca–Vinogradovka, Cișmichioi–Dolinscoe, Ceadâr-Lunga–Maloyaroslavets, Ceadâr-Lunga–Noviye-Traiani, Mirnoe–Tabaki, Etulia–Nagornoe.
The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) said it was maintaining the Orange Code of heavy precipitation, wind gusting and sleet till today evening.
