Over fifty schools cease activity due to bad weather in Moldova

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ – More than 50 educational institutions in 21 districts of Moldova ceased their activity due to strong snowfalls today.

Asked by the agency, the head of press service of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, Ion Mischevca, said that because of the cessation of the activity, over 14,200 pupils did not attend classes.

"Among the educational institutions that did not activate today is a secondary school from the left bank of the Dniester. Likewise, there stopped their activity 57 kindergartens in four districts: Telenesti – 38, Hancesti – 11, Leova – 5, Glodeni – 3. Also, the regime of activity was reduced in 42 general secondary education institutions of five districts of the country," said Mischevca.

Similarly, over 140 routes transporting pupils were suspended. They were to carry around 7,600 children. "At the same time, in 12 districts, as well as in the Balti and Chisinau municipalities, all institutions of general education function in normal regime," said Ion Mischevca.

According to info from the territory, several professional schools lack electricity or heating. In some of these, a number of absences were certified during the first hours due to the fact that public transport did not circulate.
