Moldovan premier calls for more efficient cooperation to cope with challenges created by harsh weather conditions

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ – The recent developments regarding management of the situation created by unfavorable weather conditions were analised at the meeting of Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) convened by Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, in the afternoon of 18 January 2018, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
According to info at 18:00, there were disconnected from electricity 284 localities throughout Moldova. There are working 98 mobile teams to restore electricity supply. The PM called for taking all measures to reconnect localities to electricity as soon as possible and, if necessary, intervene with generators. Also, Pavel Filip asked the electricity suppliers to treat with respect persons calling for help.
Due to harsh weather conditions, it is difficult to drive on roads, but there are no blockages. Most of highways are practicable, with over 300 snow – clearing and anti – skidding units and more than 700 employees used to clean the roads.
However, there were suspended 47 routes. The rail transport is running too late, and four flights from Chisinau airport were canceled. At the same time, six border crossing points ceased activity due to lack of electricity on the territory of Ukraine.
During the day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs’s (MAI) employees carried out more than 25 interventions, and it was arranged a tent to help the street people in Chisinau municipality. Until 14:00, the emergency medical services recorded 964 calls, and it was cases intervened promptly in all.
At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister thanked all the structures involved in overcoming the created situation by bad weather conditions: police, rescuers, firefighters, doctors and road workers. The Premier said that authorities had to be ready to face challenges and provide all necessary support to citizens. The persons in difficulty can request help at emergency number 901.
According to forecast info, weather conditions will improve in upcoming days and volume of snowfalls will be reduced.
