Strengthening Moldova’s energy security discussed in Brussels

Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy Prime Minister, Iurie Leanca, met with Maroš Šefčovič, Vice – President of the European Commission for the Energy Union, today. The officials exchanged views on recent developments in the field, registered at EU and national level, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the support request to the European Union for achieving Moldova’s objective of interconnecting the European gas and electricity transportation networks. In this context, it was expressed political commitment of Moldovan authorities to obligations arising from the Association Agreement on the energy sector.
Vice – President Šefčovič made an assessment of the regional situation in the domain of interconnections and referred to the need to strengthen efforts to ensure energy security.
Also, there were analyzed prospects for cooperation in the field of energy, its efficiency and renewable one. The European official pointed out the importance of fully implementing Energy Package III and ensuring independence of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE).
