Queen Margrethe of Denmark encourage Moldovan authorities to continue reforms for benefit of citizens

Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today met Her Majesty, Queen Margrethe of Denmark at the Royal Residence, Amalienborg Palace. Under the constitution, Queen Margrethe is the head of state.   

According to the parliament’s communication and public relations department, the Queen showed interest in the developments in Moldova and encouraged the authorities to press ahead with the reforms for the benefit of the citizens. Andrian Candu subsequently watched the Changing of the Guard at the Amalienborg Palace, regarded as one of the brightest ceremonies and one of the main attractions of Copenhagen.   

Also today, the parliament speaker had a meeting with representatives of parliamentary committees, including Mogens Lyk, the politics and foreign affairs committee. At a meeting with the head of the committee on Faroe Islands, Magni Arge and its members, the sides discussed the work of autonomies, local power and balance in delicate issues. It is worth to be mentioned that, although they are citizens of Denmark, the residents of the Faroe Islands are not EU citizens and do not benefit from commercial facilities in relation with the European Union space as Denmark. At the same time, the Faroe Islands are part of the NATO, along with Denmark.        

Andrian Candu discussed new projects and opportunities of extending the cooperation between the two countries at meetings at the office of the prime minister of Denmark.  

“Our goal is to implement the commitments assumed with the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union. The biggest challenges deal not only with money, but, first of all, with expertise and experience,” the parliament speaker noted.  

He referred also to the legislation on integration, domestic political situation, as well as the security risks Moldova is subjected to, as well as the actions undertaken by the authorities to protect the citizens.  

The parliament speaker pays an official visit to Denmark on 21-24 January 2018.
