Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutors are currently investigating several cases of homeland betrayal. The head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes, Nicolae Chitoroaga, made the statement in an interview given exclusively for MOLDPRES Agency.
The prosecutor noted that the treason case in the name of former MP Iurie Bolboceanu is the first case, which was brought to an end, and soon the magistrates are going to pronounce a ruling.
“If we are talking about state security, I want to remind you of treason case that has been monitored and widely publicized, the case of Bolboceanu. In this case, we are now awaiting a ruling. Personally, I do not question that this will be one of condemnation”, Chitoroaga said.
Chitoroaga said that “currently, there are more people who, in exchange for money, are ready to get involved in foreign policy and take various actions that are dangerous to state security”.
Iurie Bolboceanu was detained in March 2017 in a case of espionage and homeland betrayal in the interest of the Russian Federation. He might have been recruited several years ago by foreign secret services, systematically transmitting secret information to the detriment of Moldova. In exchange for information, Bolboceanu would have been financially paid.
If is found guilty, the former MP risks 12 to 20 years in prison.
