Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/- Five local administrations in the Southern Region of Moldova, which have joined the EU’s initiative “Mayors for Economic Growth”, will benefit from assistance and expertise for elaboration of local economic development plans. The projects are due to be presented during 2018.

It is about five authorities in the southern area – Cimislia and Causeni district councils, and mayoralties Cahul, Cimislia and Causeni, which joined the European initiative in November 2017. Recently, the representatives of the administrations had a meeting in Cimislia with the participation of experts from the secretariat of the “Mayors for Economic Growth” Initiative.

Gheorghe Chirman, a specialist in Causeni city hall on attracting investments and drafting projects, explained that participants in the meeting analyzed the local economy and the strategic framework of each beneficiary territorial-administrative unit.

“We are going to set partnerships between local authorities with the business environment, so it is important that we know the benefits and challenges we face. During this year, we need to present a local economic development plan that is relevant and credible to financiers. As a result, Causeni city hall could benefit from about 600,000 euros for economic development projects of the city”, the official said.

“Mayors for Economic Growth” (www.m4eg.eu) is a EU initiative launched within the Eastern Partnership in January 2017. The initiative aims to support the mayors and local governments of the Eastern Partnership countries to become active facilitators of economic growth and job creation at local level.

So far, 17 local public authorities have joined the initiative.
