Moldova sets diplomatic relations with Republic of Benin

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/- On 24 January 2018, the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Benin formalized diplomatic relations through the execution of a Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations. The Joint Communique was signed on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Moldova by His. Excellency Victor Moraru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Republic of Moldova to the United Nations, and by His Excellency Jean-Claude de Rego, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Benin to the United Nations, on behalf of the Government of Benin.
The signing ceremony took place at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations in New York.
On this occasion, the representatives of the signatory states exchanged views on how to better promote the bilateral ties and use existent potential for cooperation in the economic and social fields. The specific interaction between the two countries within the UN was also discussed. The both parties agreed on the need to support common efforts aimed at ensuring the full observance of the UN Charter and international law, in particular the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and non-interference in the internal affairs.
After the signing ceremony, a joint letter has been addressed to the Secretary General of the United Nations, informing him on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Benin, with the request to include in the records of the UN official documents the Joint Communique.
