Moldovan PM gives news conference on second anniversary of swearing in office

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today gave a news conference on the second anniversary of his swearing in the office of premier on 20 January. The PM made a realistic synthesis of the achievements from this period and pointed out the fields in which efforts are still needed to be made, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The prime minister stressed that, despite the fact that he had been sworn in office in a crisis period, the government managed to unlock foreign financings and stabilize the economy. “We have maintained the commitment to be a government which will answer criticisms through results and, first of all, will meet by results the expectations of people,” Pavel Filip said.
The PM also referred to the country’s economic development – the main goal of the government. Thus, Filip highlighted the economic growth of about four per cent, substantial increase in state budget revenues, measures undertaken for the comfort of entrepreneurs and improvement of the banking sector.
Pavel Filip underlined that this progress in the economic sector allowed the cabinet to back the agenda of social measures for the improvement of the living standards in Moldova. In this context, the prime minister emphasized the increase of the average salary on the economy, indexation of pensions and carrying out the reform of the pensions system. “We will analyze in advance the process of recalculation, with the two final stages already established for 1 April, respectively, 1 October. We have done this in order to lay the foundations of a pensions system due to provide elderly people a peaceful old age,” the PM said.
Also, a special concern is the improvement of the residents’ health condition; to this end, reforms have been implemented in the field of supervising the public health, establishing the disability, reorganization of the hospital system. Another objective of the government is the modernization of education, with investments made for the qualitative training of teachers, clear-cut radiography of the process of closing schools, introduction of the vocational school-leaving examinations.
The prime minister stressed that the regional development would also remain a priority in 2018, with emphasis put on the restoration of roads and energy infrastructure. “Step by step, city after city and village after village, citizens will see the improvement of the local infrastructure. If we want in Europe, our communities must start looking like in Europe,” Pavel Filip said.
In another context, the prime minister touched upon the continuation of the justice reform and fighting corruption, so that all citizens are equal before the law and people’s trust in the justice system is re-established.
In the end, the PM thanked those who had confidence in the government he led and gave assurances that, in the 2018 electoral year, the cabinet would stay far from the whirl of the electoral campaign and would continue working for concrete results. “We have managed what we have managed and we are to further work for you. We need confidence, as well as much dedication in continuation as well, as if each of us does his/her job well, no matter whether working at the government or at school, in parliament or at an enterprise, we will together turn Moldova into a country where we want to live,” Pavel Filip added.
