All persons guilty of bank fraud to be sanctioned - Moldovan PM says

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/- All persons who are guilty of fraud of the Savings Bank, Social Bank and Unibank will be sanctioned, and Moldova has real chances to recover some of the stolen money. Prime Minister Pavel Filip made the statement at a TV show on 28 January.

Filip said that Kroll company investigating fraud presented in December a draft second report, a document that will be forwarded to prosecutors for consideration in subsequent investigations.

“Nobody saw this report except for those from BNM. There is a clause in the agreement with the audit company that it is strictly forbidden to make this report public. Kroll detectives are not those who come and go on charges, prosecutors need to identify those who have acted in bad faith. Kroll or the government does not submit charges, but those of the Prosecutor’s Office”, he said.

The premier noted that once the report is unveiled, a consortium will be set up with the participation of Kroll experts, representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency.

“All those responsible will be sanctioned. We have real chances to recover some of the stolen money”, Filip said.

A summary of the report Kroll-2 was published in late December 2017 by the National Bank of Moldova. The document does not include any new name of those involved in bank fraud. The first report of the Kroll company was made public by Speaker Andrian Candu in 2015.
