Moldovan speaker meets joint delegation of Venice Commission, OSCE/ODIHR

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today met joint delegation of the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR, which is on fact-collecting visit to Moldova on 28-30 January, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The visit takes place in the context of the preparation by the Venice Commission and the OSCE/ODIHR of the joint opinion on the amended electoral law due to be presented on 16-17 March.
“The current legislative framework provides all the conditions for organizing and conducting free, fair and democratic elections”, he said.
The experts were interested in the criteria and the constitution of the constituencies, mechanisms that ensure the inclusive character of the future elections, as well as other technical issues of organizing the elections according to the new norms.
Several rounds of public debates to amend the electoral system were organized by parliament and civil society. Proposals submitted by the participants in the debates were taken into account by MPs.
Also, all the technical and legislative recommendations made by the experts of the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR were debated and included in the draft amendment to the electoral legislation.
Also, the members of the joint delegation have meetings with representatives of the parliamentary factions.
