USA to provide Moldova with over 11 million dollars to develop economy

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/ - The United States will provide Moldova, during four years, with 11.2 million dollars for the implementation of the programme, Structural Reforms for Business Environment, - a project launched in Chisinau today. The money will be offered to facilitate the trade, improve the business environment, system of procurements, as well as the strategic communication.    

The programme is aimed at improving the business environment and commerce, helping the governmental institutions and private sector to speed up the implementation of the trade liberalization mechanisms, adopting structural reforms, contributing to the stipulation of the business environment and improving the strategic communication between the private sector and public actors.   

“This event is very important for us, in the context of the implementation of the reforms promoted by the Moldovan government. I believe that, by joint efforts, we can bring Europe home, by ensuring high living standards for the residents, developing the national economy, enhancement of the purchasing power and  competitiveness of the native goods,” Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici said at the launch event.  

The minister considers that it was very important to lay the foundations of a digital economy in Moldova, given that the information technologies sector is a priority one. “We are open to make needed amendments to the legislation, regulatory and institutional framework, in order to advance in the creation of the digital economy, which will contribute to the country’s economic and social development, enhancing the potential and creating new jobs in Moldova,” Gaburici noted.    

“By this new project, the USA is further by the side of those who promote economic reforms in Moldova, in everything deals with the strengthening of the economic relations with Europe and strict aligning with the European integration requirements, such as the combating of corruption, ensuring transparency and good governance of the state institutions,” U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit said.   

The American diplomat added that “this programme will contribute to the formation of an open, dynamic, competitive national economy, strongly focused on the private sector and aligned with the rules of modern trade.”

The USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development) Programme for Structural Reforms in Moldova has four components: improving the approximation and implementation of international commercial agreements; carrying out of structural reforms for improving the business environment; involvement of partners in the creation of coalitions for achieving results through strategic communication; trade corridors improvement fund.
