Moldova starts negotiating draft agreement on pensions with Italy

Chisinau, 31 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will start negotiating a draft agreement on the establishment and export of social insurances with Italy. The parliament’s commission for foreign policy and European integration, at a today’s meeting, approved a draft to this end, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The draft sees the providing of age limit pensions, pensions of disability triggered by general diseases, pensions and allowances of disability caused by labour accidents or triggered by professional diseases, survivor pensions for migrant workers from Moldova. This refers to those who carry out or carried out a labour activity in Italy and/or reside on the territory of one or both contracting states.
Thus, the Moldovan citizens who worked in Italy, when reaching the retirement age, will benefit from pension of this state. At the same time, during the period of work, they will be provided with an income in form of social benefits, in case of the occurring of a labour accident or a professional disease, and the family members will be insured if the bread-earner dies. Only the persons who paid state social insurances contributions in the country where they are employed will benefit from pensions and other benefits.
According to the proportional principle of pensions’ calculation, each state will pay the pension calculated proportionally to the period of insurance carried out on its own territory. The pension will be transferred to the person’s state of residence.
The draft agreement is to undergo all domestic stages and procedures related to the signing, ratification and enforcement of a treaty.
Moldova has signed agreements on social security with 13 states so far, of which 11 are enforced.
