Parliament's commission for national security, defence, public order approves draft on Moldovan Constitution's completion

Chisinau, 31 January /MOLDPRES/ – The National Security, Defence and Public Order Commission examined and approved at its today meeting the draft completion of the Constitution of Moldova with provisions that establish the European integration vector as a strategic objective of Moldova’s development, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
According to the draft, the Supreme Law will be supplemented by a new article stipulating that the European integration of Moldova is the strategic objective of the country’s developmen and the procedure for accession of Moldova to constituent treaties of the European Union will be determined by the Parliament by organic law.
At the same time, it is proposed to complete the preamble of the Constitution with a new sentence that will highlight the European integration aspirations of Moldova and promote the orientation of the Republic of Moldova towards the European democratic value space.
The initiative to amend the Constitution belongs to a group of MPs from the majority parliamentary coalition.
The relations of Moldova with the European Union were launched with the signing on 28 November 1994 of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. Subsequently, it was signed the Moldova – EU Action Plan in February 2005 and on 24 March 2005, the Moldovan Parliament adopted the Declaration on Political Partnership for the achievement of the European integration objectives of Moldova. In January 2010, Moldova and the European Union pledged to negotiate the Association Agreement. Afterwards, it was approved the National Programme for Implementation of Moldova – European Union Action Plan on the liberalization of the visa regime. On 28 June 2014, it was signed the Association Agreement with the European Union.
The Parliament of Moldova reaffirmed the desideratum of European integration through Parliament’s decisions №274 of 14 November 2013 and №218 of 29 July 2016 approving express statements on support of the European integration process of Moldova and on the national partnership in the field of European integration.
