Disadvantaged families of Moldova to receive converters for digital terrestrial television free of charge

Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/ – The families benefiting of social assistance will receive free converters to connect to digital terrestrial television. A decision in this regard was approved at meeting of Cabinet of Ministers today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The document comes to ensure the right of access to info in context of implementation of the Programme for transition from analogue terrestrial television to digital terrestrial one.
As a result, families receiving social assistance for February 2018, which have a functional TV that does not receive the digital signal, will have to register, during the period 01 March – 05 May, a written application to community social worker where they reside. The lists of applicants registered for endowment with the converter will be drawn up by the territorial structures of social assistance and approved by the deputy chairman of the district/deputy mayor of the municipality on social issues.
According to estimates, almost 72,000 underprivileged families received social assistance in 2016. Thus, about 209,000 persons in such families will take advantage from benefits of digital terrestrial television after disconnecting analogue television.
