Moldovan official journal roundup for 9 February

Chisinau, 8 February /MOLDPRES/- The law on electronic commerce will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 9 February.

Following the amendment to the current legislation, the existing gaps were eliminated and the provisions of the law were adjusted in accordance with the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU.

The new document sets the conditions for providing electronic services, principles for electronic commerce, establishing liability of services and intermediaries, creating permits to prevent disputes and supporting cooperation between Moldova and other states in providing information services.

The law also comprises provisions on personal data. On their processing, service providers are required to comply with the data privacy regime, to take necessary organizational and technical measures to protect personal data against unlawful access.

At the same time, the law includes provisions on placing the order.

The authority that will monitor compliance with consumer protection rules in the process of marketing goods and services through electronic means is the Consumer Protection Agency, and the control of lawfulness of personal data processing in the electronic commerce will be carried out by the National Centre for Personal Data Protection.

The application of the new law will offer more opportunities to develop online commerce in the country and will allow boosting economic growth of enterprises, increased investment in innovation, which develop due to electronic systems and contribute to the consolidation of the competitiveness of enterprises of all levels in Moldova.

The law enters into force after the expiration of three months of its publication in the Official Journal of Moldova. The government within three months will submit to parliament proposals on bringing the legislation in accordance with this law.
