Moldova, Azerbaijan to boost cooperation in military sector

Chisinau, 8 February /MOLDPRES/ – Parliament ratified the Agreement between Government of Moldova and the Government of Azerbaijan on cooperation in the military sector today, drafted in Chisinau on 24 April 2017 and in Baku on 12 June 2017.

The document establishes basis for development of bilateral military contacts and also long – term planning and identification of areas of military cooperation between states – parties.

According to agreement, cooperation between Moldova and Azerbaijan will focus on areas such as defence and its planning, military – technical work, personnel training, social and cultural – sports activities in army, joint activities under NATO Partnership for Peace Programme, Consultations on the issues of peacekeeping operations and humanitarian aid, and others.

The parties will draw up a bilateral military cooperation plan each year that will set out various activities, forms of implementation, terms and place of deployment, responsible authorities, number of persons and other important issues related to organization and conduct of activities. The authorities empowered to implement provisions of Agreement are the Ministries of Defence of parties.

Following terms of the agreement, in case of litigation concerning its interpretation or enforcement, parties will resolve them throughout negotiations and consultations. The expenditures that will follow implementation of Agreement in case of Moldova will be covered from and within annual budget approved by the Ministry of Defence (MA).

The agreement was concluded for five years, with indication for possibility to be prolonged.
