Moldovan meteorologists forecast snowfall for next days

Chisinau, 9 February /MOLDPRES/ - Cold at night, positive air temperatures during the day, variable cloud and snowfall all over the country – these are forecasts by meteorologists for the next days.
According to the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS), in the week-end, the weather will be characterized by air temperatures varying from 0 and +3 Celsius degrees in the northern region and +1 - +5 degrees in the central and southern Moldova. At night, the air temperatures are to drop below zero, expecting to stand at an average of -5 degrees throughout the country. On 11 February, snowfall is expected all over Moldova.
The same tendency is to be maintained on 12 February too. On 13 February, the air temperature is to drop by several degrees. Snowfall is expected during the next week as well, especially in the southern region.
According to specialists, in February, precipitation is mostly in form of snow. The average size of the snow layer in each ten-day period varies from 3 to 11 cm in Moldova. The maximal size of the snow layer on meteorological platforms reached over 70 cm in some years (28 February, 1973, in Briceni, north Moldova).
The following phenomena are possible in Moldova in February: fog (2-7 days, on average), hoar frost and glazed frost (2-6 days), snow storm (1-2 days).
