Law of anti – propaganda comes into force in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/ – The anti – propaganda law, providing several modifications to the code of audiovisual (CA), came into force today.

The national media had 30 days to connect programme services to new audiovisual norms after the law was published in Official Journal on 12 January.

According to the amendments, the notion "info security" was introduced into CA. The term provides: "state of protection of info resources, including a set of measures to ensure protection of individuals, society and state against possible misinfo and/or manipulative external info and for not admitting media challenges facing Moldova".

The CA was added by an article stating that broadcasting of television and radio programmes with info, analytical, military and political content that are produced in EU member states, USA, Canada, as well as in states which ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television (CETT), a document which Russia did not ratify.

In case of new provisions’ violation, broadcasters risk fines from MDL 70 thousand – 100 thousand or licence withdrawal in case of repeated sanctions.

The government will have three months from the date of its publication to bring its normative acts in accordance with the given law and submit to parliament proposals on adjusting national legislation within new amendments CA.
