Moldovan Democrats discuss food security at party's meeting

14:26 | 13.02.2018 Category: Social

Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, at a today’s weekly meeting of PDM, informed that the security in the food sector was one of the problems citizens were concerned about and which must be tackled more actively. Plahotniuc noted that he had demanded that the government works out an action plan in this field.

According to Plahotniuc, the problem of food security persists in the society and has lately worsened, when more and more cases of abuses appeared in this sector.

“I saw all kinds of reports unveiled by the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) and other institutions, which show that actions are undertaken; yet, nevertheless, the problem persists and we believe that, beyond statistics, it is important that what people find in shops should be in accordance with the law. You have seen just on the last days what dangerous forms abuses in this field can take, through those illegal agreements for the sale of expired medicines; we in the past had examples in other zones; this is a phenomenon which has developed for years and time is ripe that we intervene resolutely to stop it,” the PDM leader said.

Plahotniuc said that he had demanded that the cabinet elaborates a comprehensive action plan regarding the enhancement of the food security. He also said that the agencies managing this sector must become more active, should provide citizens with as easy as possible forms, through which they might submit notifications immediately after identifying an infringement of the legislation.

“In parallel, we will analyze also the legislative framework in the field, in order to see whether we can improve it,” Plahotniuc added.

In late last week, 20 persons, of whom 12 physicians, were detained by the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA). They are suspected of involvement in a corruptible scheme, through which sales agents of pharmaceutical companies agreed with physicians from medical and sanitary institutions to promote their products.

A study has been recently published in mass media, which shows that more dairy goods sold in Moldovan shops contain seed fats.
