Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ – Seven people, including construction specialists, were detained today during searches conducted at headquarters of the Mayor’s office of Chisinau, Territorial Cadastral Service (SCT) and homes of suspects. They are prosecuted in a case of corruption, forgery in acts and trafficking of influence.
According to the National Anticorruption Centre’s (CAN) information and media communication service, a group of people rented an office in the capital city hall from 2017 and implemented a criminal scheme for legalization of authorized and unauthorized constructions within Chisinau municipality into interest of individuals and companies.
The group consisted of two coordinators and several specialists in construction: technical experts, designers, engineers, site supervisors, being part of final paperwork of the Commission. Thus, the group leadership identified persons who were planning to complete their final building acceptance papers, providing them with total portfolio of documents, and then involving members of the Commission to sign the final documents.
The prosecutors determined that, with all decision-making power, the group perfected acts of final building reception, without going on spot to evaluate the works. The whole affair was running in one office in the City Hall, after which the same people went to SCT Chisinau to register the buildings.
In investigation, there were reported around 40 cases where the group legalised construction of buildings in Chisinau and its suburbs. For their services, coordinators of the group gathered from customers €250 – €3500, each member of the Commission receiving his share of money.
The suspects risk up to seven years in prison if found guilty.
