Event dedicated to Chinese New Year held at Chisinau-based library

Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ - Pupils from more Chisinau-based lyceums today assembled at the Ion Creanga National Library for Children at an event dedicated to the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival, organized in partnership with the Embassy of China in Moldova.   

Attending the event were Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of China to Moldova Zhang Yinghong, Secretary I of the Chinese Embassy in Moldova Mrs. Zhang Yanjun, Director of the Confucius Institute Wang Yifeng, pupils and teachers of the M. Berezovschi, Socrate and Prometeu-Junior lyceums.   

In his speech, Ambassador Zhang Yinghong said that China and Moldova are very good friends and partners and the friendship between the two nations had a long history. “The cultural exchanges have always been the bridge linking the friendship between the two countries. Availing myself of this occasion, let me, on behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, express gratitude to the Ion Creanga National Library for Children for the intense contribution brought to the cultural exchange between our countries. The Embassy of China will support and promote, as always, diverse cultural events, in order to provide more opportunities to people from both countries to be familiarized and understand each other,” Zhang Yinghong stressed.    

According to the Chinese official, 2018 is the year of dog in China, with the dog symbolizing devotion, happiness and prosperity. On this occasion, Zhang Yinghong wished everybody health, happiness and fulfillment of all wishes.  

For her part, the deputy director of the Ion Creanga National Library for Children, Eugenia Bejan, noted that the Chinese New Year been marked at the library since 2006. “Our goal is to promote the Chinese language and culture and strengthen the cultural relations between the two countries,” Eugenia Bejan said.    

Pupils participated in a trivia game titled, What Do You Know about China?, in diverse interactive games, including Chinese games with surprises for children. A varied artistic programme was presented to the participants, which included Chinese dances and songs.    

The Chinese New Year starts on 16 February. The Chinese people mark the New Year according to a calendar which takes into account the Lunar phases and each year is associated with one of the twelve signs of the Chinese Zodiac, to which one of the elements: metal, water, wood, fire, earth is annexed.
