Moldova, Latvia strengthen interparliamentary relations

Chisinau, 01 March /MOLDPRES/ – Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, had a meeting with President of Saeima of Latvia, visiting Moldova today. Ināra Mūrniece was welcomed by plenary sitting of the Parliament today and she left a message into card of Honour of Legislative.

According to the parliament’s communication and public relations department, Andrian Candu appreciated Estonian support for European agenda of Moldova at his meeting with Inara Murniece. The head of the Parliament referred to progress achieved by Moldova in implementation of reform agenda, especially at legislative level, through adoption of legislation in financial – banking field, fight against corruption, justice reform, as well as security challenges facing Moldova.

At her turn, President of Saeima mentioned that Latvia was and continues to be a friend of Moldova, supporting our country within process of getting closer to EU.

Estonia grants Moldova, for the third consecutive year, €950,000 assistance to implement projects in sectors such as democracy and good governance, rural development and health. There were approved 12 support projects in 2017.

President of Saeima of Latvia, Ināra Mūrniece, pays a visit to Moldova on 28 February – 03 March at invitation of Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu. The Latvian Delegation will attend the High Level Interparliamentary Conference: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges, to be organized on 02 March 2018.

The conference, organized at initiative of heads of Parliaments of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, in partnership with Atlantic Council, will debate issues related to info security, energy, defence, as well as discussing assurance of stable economic growth and rule of law in the region. The event will bring together almost 150 high – level officials and experts, including speakers from Legislative, MEPs, US Congress representatives, international and regional notorious experts.

The three Speakers of Parliament join forces to promote common defence and security policies.

The representatives of Parliaments in the area as well as the US Congress, MEPs confirmed participation in the first high – level interparliamentary conference on security issues: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges, organized in Chisinau. Also, notable experts such as Atlantic Council Executive Vice President, Damon Wilson, Anders Aslund, Eurasia Centre, Atlantic Council, Eurasia Centre Director, John Herbst, Ambassador Asif Chaudhry, Associate Director RUSI, Jonathan Eyal, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, former Secretary NATO Deputy General, other international and regional experts.
