Moldovan parliament appoints new head of Supreme Court of Justice

Chisinau, 03 May /MOLDPRES/ – Magistrate Ion Druta was appointed today with vote of 53 MPs as head of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).

Ion Druta was only registered candidate within competition initiated for that position and submitted to Parliament by members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM).

Ion Druta has been a judge since 1994 and in 2004 – 2013 he was head of Chisinau Court, Botanica sector. At the same time, magistrate has held position of President of Association of Judges of Moldova (AJM) commencing 2009.

According to the legislation in force, president of CSJ is appointed for a four – year term and may hold the position for at most two consecutive terms. The President of CSJ is appointed by Parliament, at proposal of CSM.
