Moldovan speaker of parliament gives thanks to press

Chisinau, 03 May /MOLDPRES/ – The representatives of local media, media organisations and diplomatic missions accredited to Moldova were invited to a guided tour of the Parliament on occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, the parliament's communications and public relations department has reported.
The visitors were presented with offered opportunities to accredited mass media, existing facilities for a transparent activity of institution as well as ongoing projects for improving quality of communication of institution and mass media.
Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu welcomed visitors and thanked press for work they do. He took pictures of accredited photographers for work of Legislature and which works have been exhibited in Parliament the second year within organised exhibition on occasion of the Press Freedom Day.
"A free, pluralistic and independent press is an essential component of a democratic society. On the parliamentary platform, we set up a working group supported by the Joint European Union Project and the Council of Europe: Promoting mass media freedom and pluralism in Moldova. The representatives of mass media and civil society elaborate legislation for mass media and presented projects are promoted in Parliament. Until present, it was voted in first reading new Audiovisual Code and adopted Concept on Media Development. We are waiting for other projects," said Andrian Candu, from the main floor of Parliament.
The Parliament organises, for the second consecutive year, exhibition of photographers accredited to Parliament in May on occasion of the World Press Freedom Day proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993. Marked on 03 May, World Press Freedom Day brings to attention, discloses importance and necessity of respect for freedom of expression.
