Nine Lithuanian photographers exhibit works in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 10 May /MOLDPRES/ – An exhibition of the Lithuanian Photographers Association "Lithuanian Photographers – Winners of the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Art" was inaugurated today at the National Library. The event was organised by the host institution in cooperation with the Embassy of Lithuania in the Republic of Moldova.

In her speech, Elena Pintilei, director of the National Library, mentioned that the exhibition has included 30 photographs, made by nine Lithuanian photographers, reflecting everyday life of Lithuania, with all its beauties: landscapes, traditions, nature, portraits, etc. "This event is organised within the Year of European Cultural Heritage and European Days in Moldova. Lithuania is a model for European integration and development for Moldova. We thank the Embassy of Lithuania for organizing this beautiful exhibition," said Elena Pintilei.

Attending the event, Rimantas Latakas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Moldova, said that this exhibition presents works of nine famous Lithuanian photo artists and all these works have been awarded highest prize in art and culture in Lithuania – The Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize. This prize is set up by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and aimed at encouraging creativity and evaluating the most important cultural and artistic works. According to the Lithuanian official, the names of photographers such as Antanas Sutkus, Romualdas Rakauskas, Aleksandras Macijauskas, Algimantas Kunčius or Romualdas Požerskis have also become widely known outside of Lithuania for many years, and these photographers are also winners of various international awards.

Rimantas Latakas thanked the National Library for the space provided for exhibition, as well as plastic artist Anatolie Gerasimov and his wife Lorina which helped them in installation of photos within exhibition. "I am delighted that Lithuania celebrates its centenary with support of its close friends. I hope that our joint projects with the National Library of Moldova will continue. I am particularly pleased that there are growing ties between national libraries of our countries which I hope will lead to launch of joint publications and other projects and I am sure that these common projects will contribute to development of info and culture environment in both states" , said the Ambassador of Lithuania.

In this context, head of department of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, Orest Dabija, said that such exhibitions are welcome for bilateral cooperation between our countries and they must be reciprocal. "At present, the exhibition "Basarabenii in Gulag", organised by the National History Museum of Moldova, is presented in Lithuania. The exhibition is very successful. Previously, it was shown in Latvia and Estonia. We have valences and common points that link us to the past. The centenary of Lithuania is concurrent with the Romanian centenary. The past has left its mark and we are getting closer," said Orest Dabija.

The exhibition will be open until 08 June.
