Moldovan PM unveils government's activity report for 2017 in parliament

Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip unveiled the government’s activity report for 2017 in parliament today. Filip referred to the developments throughout the last year and pointed out aspects on which the cabinet’s efforts are presently focused, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The PM stressed that, although more achievements had been recorded, the government knows quite clearly where work should be done and would continue working, so that the citizens feel concrete changes. “After the 2016 year, when we managed to economically stabilize the country, in 2017, we laid foundations of reform processes, and in 2018, we start building. In the direct and figurative senses. Time is ripe for us to make bigger steps, so that people feel more substantive improvements of the daily life,” the PM said.   

Pavel Filip reviewed the most important reforms: the one of the central public administration, creation of the Public Services Agency, so that people can benefit from a single window for those 1,000 public services, as well as all reforms for the good of the business environment. As a result, last year, we had a 4.5-per cent economic growth and the average salary on the economy grew by 12 per cent up to 5,700 lei, exceeding 6,000 lei this year. Special emphasis is put on the IT sector, which generates the highest salary on the economy, 17,000 lei on average.  

“Many things still remain to be done, so that business people feel comfortably in Moldova. We know this. At the same time, we know that we need a strong business environment for the country’s development, which is to move the national economy’s engines to the maximum,” Pavel Filip said.  

All these positive developments allowed increasing the allocations for social and health programmes. In the context, the PM highlighted the successful carrying out of the pensions’ reform, increase in more allocations and allowances, as well as the changes in the health system, in order to enhance the quality of medical assistance services. Pavel Filip also touched upon more comprehensive projects underway: First Home programme, Good Roads for Moldova programme and the launch of the 112 Service – all with direct and concrete effects on citizens.    

Nevertheless, the prime minister said that the needed living standards had not been reached in Moldova. To this end, the authorities set three major priorities for 2019-2021: education, justice and infrastructure. “We will invest in the future of our children, in correctness and honesty and in the quality of life. This is what we are set to do in the years to come. At the same time, we will continue focusing on efforts to ensure a friendly business environment, care for people through implementing social protection measures and will try to edify a modern health system. We know what should be done and we will do this. With labour and dedication,” Pavel Filip said.

The prime minister also emphasized the progress made on the Transnistrian dimension, good relations with the neighbour countries and cooperation based on trust with the development partners. “It is worth to be noted also the relations with the United States, as well as our efforts to overcome the complicated period in the ties with Moscow. Moldova presently has a worthy and efficient foreign policy,” the PM underlined.  

In the end of his speech, the prime minister urged the opposition to change its approach and come up with constructive criticism and proposals about how things can be done better in Moldova. At the same time, Pavel Filip urged citizens to have courage and confidence. “We ask just to be judged according to the results and the trust in what we do will lead us to results. We have great and clear-cut plans with Moldova. To implement them, we need confidence, vision, much work, determination and dedication. Together we can turn our country into a country where we want to live,” the PM added.
